Quality checks pending. Our Manuka Honey is in development as we review suppliers, traceability and the information needed to make a confident selection.

What is Manuka honey?

Manuka honey, also written mānuka honey, is made by bees collecting nectar from mānuka flowers. New Zealand mānuka is associated with the plant Leptospermum scoparium. Its floral identity, origin and grading information are useful starting points when choosing a jar.

At Sidr & Stone, we want those details to be clear. We are working towards a honey with documented sourcing and accurate product information. Our final country of origin, grade and handling specifications have not yet been confirmed.

Understanding MGO and UMF

MGO stands for methylglyoxal, a compound measured in Manuka honey. An MGO rating describes its concentration; it does not, by itself, establish the honey’s origin or certify every aspect of its quality.

UMF stands for Unique Mānuka Factor. It is a certification and quality assurance system run by the UMF Honey Association, with checks that extend beyond MGO alone. An MGO number and a UMF grade are not interchangeable labels.

These are general buying terms, not specifications for our forthcoming jar. We are not assigning an MGO number, a UMF grade or a certification claim until the relevant product information is confirmed.

Manuka honey questions

What is monofloral or multifloral Manuka honey?

In New Zealand’s export framework, laboratory testing distinguishes monofloral mānuka honey from multifloral mānuka honey. These categories concern floral identity and are separate from an MGO measurement. We will state the applicable classification for our product when it is verified.

What should I look for when buying Manuka honey?

Look for a clear origin, an identifiable supplier, accurate grading information and evidence supporting any certification shown. Compare jar sizes and confirmed specifications alongside the price. A large number on a label is only one part of the information needed to choose well.

What is the difference between Manuka and Sidr honey?

Their nectar comes from different plants. Explore our forthcoming Sidr Honey and our Sidr honey vs Manuka comparison for an introduction to the two varieties.
